Palindromes: What happens when we reverse our perceptions? Interweaving religious themes and popular icons, Ann seeks to examine the nature of polarity using Palindromes as vehicles for altering fixed perceptions. In this game of words, what appears to read in one direction may also be read in another, thus what comes around goes around. Through their reversal, Palindromes mirror the shadow sides of ourselves, ask questions for which there is no answer and with their absurdity and humour, push us to challenge our beliefs and understanding of reality. Ann's constructions follow particular themes such as Ten South African Canvases to her boxes. In Ten South African Canvases, she examines the archetypal roles individuals and the community need to take if they are to obtain enlightenment. In her "Boxes" she conveys a message relating to various phrases to do with creativity and explores what creativity is such as Creative Block |
